Few things are more enjoyable after a walk than settling into a traditional pub, and South Devon offers some memorable options.
- The Tradesman’s Arms, Stokenham – Just a short drive from the cottage, this 14th-century thatched pub is full of character with beams, log fires, and a welcoming atmosphere. Dogs are welcome, and it’s a favourite with our guests for both food and real ales.
- The Cricket Inn, Beesands – Located in a fishing village overlooking Start Bay, The Cricket Inn is known for its seafood and relaxed setting. Dogs are allowed in the bar area, making it a good choice after a coastal walk.
- Start Bay Inn, Torcross – Famous for its fish and chips, this historic 14th-century inn sits right on Slapton Sands. Dogs are welcome inside and out, so you can enjoy a meal with sea views after a beach stroll.
- The Crabshell Inn, Kingsbridge – Right on the quayside, the Crabshell is a lively, family-friendly pub that welcomes dogs. With its south-facing terrace, it’s a lovely spot to relax while watching life on the water.

- Waterside cafés in Salcombe – Many of Salcombe’s harbourside cafés allow dogs, giving you the chance to sit with a coffee or light meal while enjoying the view.

Holidays with pets are about more than just walks and food stops. There are also a number of attractions that welcome dogs.
- South West Coast Path – Covering 630 miles in total, the section around Kingsbridge and Salcombe is especially scenic. Dogs love the open space, and many pubs along the way are dog-friendly.
- Salcombe–Kingsbridge Estuary – Ideal for waterside walks, with plenty of places to pause and enjoy the views.
- National Trust Properties – Overbeck’s garden near Salcombe and Coleton Fishacre further along the coast both welcome dogs in their grounds. Greenway, Agatha Christie’s former home, also allows dogs in certain areas.
- Slapton Ley Nature Reserve – A peaceful freshwater lake with nature trails and lots of wildlife to spot. Dogs on leads are welcome.
